Why a Natural Grass Bowling Green is Better than Synthetic?

While the quality of synthetic greens is better than even 5 years ago, surface hardness
of synthetic greens is a big issue, as is glare and heat.
Players also mention a number of other issues they have with synthetics, although these
may reflect older products or perhaps greens that may have poorly laid or maintained.

These issues include:

  Sand (too high) scratching bowls
Susceptibility to tracking
Playing oddities "Staighteners"
Variable draw on each hand
Narrowness of draw
Variability of pace
"Seaming"

Some other reasons to go with natural turf:

Water damage to a synthetic green
Bowler comments on artificial surfaces
